Flipside Fest’s Fall Festivities Fizzle for 2024

In another setback for the struggling music scene in Boise, Idaho, the promoter of Flipside Fest announced today that they have canceled this year’s installment of the event.

The promoters behind the festival, The Duck Club, said the multi-stage, multi-day event will happen again next year. Nevertheless, the cancellation of Flipside Fest 2024 is the latest black eye for concert organizers in Boise, following one of the most lackluster Treefort Fest events in recent memory.

“Don’t worry, Flipside friends: We will be back!” read a post on the website for promoter The Duck Club. “You may be asking, ‘Why is Flipside taking a year off?’ To put it simply: the Duck Club team needs a bit of a summer break.”

Last weekend, Boise’s annual Treefort Music Fest featured one of its weakest rosters of artists in the history of the event. But neither the anemic bill nor the dicey weather deterred local music lovers from checking out live sets across the modest city.

Why Cher Wants to Talk To Paul Giamatti

Posted in News with tags , , on 02/11/2024 by Kurt Orzeck

USA Today, The Huffington Post, People and other media outlets are baffled as to why Cher is apparently trying to get in touch with Paul Giamatti. The answer is simple: Because, two months ago on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the actor pleaded with the pop-music icon to be on his podcast.

During Giamatti’s latest appearance on Late Night, the frequent guest and 2024 Oscar nominee (for The Holdovers) told Colbert that Cher is the “dream guest” he wanted to have on his Chinwag podcast. Philosopher/author Stephen Asma co-hosts the program, which explores various conspiracy theories and altered states of consciousness.

When Colbert asked Giamatti to name the “white whale” guest he’d most like to have on the podcast, on which Colbert himself has appeared, the actor quickly answered: “The big game I want to bag is Cher.” The surprised audience began mildly applauding, to which Giamatti jocularly replied: “Can you feel that? Me and Cher in the same room, talking about Sasquatch?”

Later in the conversation — after Colbert mentioned that Cher is a fan of Giamatti’s hit Showtime program Billions — noted Giamatti formally invited Cher onto Chinwag. He remarked to the camera: “Cher, it’s Paul Giamatti. If you’re watching, baby, I’m here.”

With Treefort Music Fest less than two months away, indie-rock fans flocking to Boise can breathe a collective sigh of relief: Legendary artist Mary Timony is, indeed, still on the bill.

Best known as the leader of Helium, the dreamy Boston trio that served as a staple of Matador Records’ roster in the ’90s, Timony is one of the main draws at this year’s edition of the five-day event. Treefort will take place from March 20 to 24 at various venues throughout the growing city.
