Heavy-Rock Trio Temptress Luring Fans to Realms Tonight for Second-Ever Boise Gig

Posted in Concert Previews, Interviews with tags , , , , , on 05/08/2026 by Kurt Orzeck

Dallas trio Temptress – which feature Andi Cuba on drums and vocals, Kelsey Wilson on guitar and vocals, and Christian Wright on bass and vocals – have come a long way since forming seven years ago. The trio have cranked out two LPs (SEE in March 2023 and hear in January of this year) as well as an EP (Temptress in June 2019) that coherently and rivetingly mash up their love of old-school metal, alt-rock and post-rock into a distinct sound that’s all their own.

Perhaps even more impressively, Cuba, Wilson and Wright – all of whom were already tour vets when they formed Temptress – have developed a marathon-runner-esque endurance for spending time on the road. Already deep into a long series of dates supporting hear, the band makes a pit stop at Realms Arcade in Boise tonight for what will be, as anyone who’s seen them before will attest, a spellbindingly smashing good gig.

In anticipation of the concert, we caught up with Wright yesterday as the band was between gigs in Spokane, WA, and Moscow, ID.

Hot off the recent release of their latest album, Bad Luck, Banshee Tree are returning to Boise this evening to showcase their new material and reconnect with the many friends they’ve made here. Based in Denver, the band is starting to tour in support of Bad Luck with six shows – including one at Treefort Music Hall in Boise.

We touched base with saxophone and keyboard player Jesse Shantor yesterday to get the skinny on what Banshee Tree have in store for their show, to try to understand his ability to play those two instruments simultaneously – and much more.

Dumbo Gets Mad Ready to Barrel Through Boise Again After Treefort Breakthrough

Posted in Concert Previews, Interviews with tags , on 05/05/2026 by Kurt Orzeck

Three years ago, psychedelic-pop band Dumbo Gets Mad gave a rousing performance at Treefort Music Fest that left a massive foot-size imprint on Boise. Tonight they return to the city in the hopes of matching or even besting their previous show. The band is opening for Levitation Room – read The Bad Penny‘s 2019 interview for The Big Takeover and 2024 interview for New Noise – at Shrine Social Club.

Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show beginning an hour later with a set by Floating Witch’s Head (featuring Treefort co-founder Eric Gilbert). Buy tickets here for approximately $40 apiece.

In anticipation of Dumbo Gets Mad’s return to Boise, we caught up with frontman Luca Bergomi – who founded the band 15 years ago – via phone on Saturday. The Bad Penny picked his brain about how their tour is going, various records they’ve put out over the years and why asking the right question is often more important than arriving at the right answer.

On Tyranny: Dropkick Murphys Headlining Free ‘Abolish ICE’ Concert in Minneapolis Tonight

One of the most curious, foreboding and even alarming trends that arose and continues to metastasize amid the Trump regime’s incalculable atrocities can be summed up in one sentence: Where are all the punk bands?

The bread and butter of punk music is – or at least was – an anti-establishment sentiment shared by young people who galvanized to fight en masse against injustices like racism, sexism and class warfare. In fact, the punk movement was so furious, potent and desperate for social and political change that they almost indisputably played a critical role in the last quarter of the 20th century.

From the Sex Pistols publicly taking the piss out of Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher due to the latter’s ruthless rule to railing against bobbies to figuratively spitting on conservative politicians, punk bands played an integral role in transforming their stomping grounds into a more accepting, and therefore freer, version of itself.

American punks also impacted their own culture around the same time as the Brits were fighting the good fight – look no further than Black Flag, Misfits and Circle Jerks for proof. Instead, look at what’s happening today, during one of the most horrific and terrifying periods in the last decade of American history.

In case you haven’t heard – and really, God bless you if you haven’t – the president of the United States of America and Dana White are planning to stage a UFC fight on the White House South Lawn on June 14 as part of a “celebration” of Trump‘s birthday. Well, Boise’s music scene is planning a vastly more enjoyable, safer and morally legit event of its own: an all-ages battle of the bands referred to “Prize Fight Fest,” happening Jan. 16 at the Shrine Social Club.

“The event commemorates the turning of a new leaf for Mount Orange Records to re-launch as a sister-label of Mishap,” the event organizers said in a statement, noting that it will also serve as a label showcase of sorts. “[We’ll] be ringing in the new year with several new artists and releases, many of which are performing on the following lineup.”

Heriot Amped to ‘Prove’ Their Mettle at Boise Gig With Trivium Tonight as Part of First US Tour

Posted in Concert Previews, Interviews with tags , on 11/29/2025 by Kurt Orzeck

British metalcore thrill-seekers Heriot eked out their first song, “Cleansed Existence,” five years ago – and, after very long last, they’re winding their way through the U.S. in style with like-minded metal legends Trivium. In addition to introducing itself to America, Heriot is supporting its new album, Devoured by the Mouth of Hell, which came out in September 2024 via Century Media.

Guitarist and vocalist Debbie Gough answered a handful of questions we tossed the band’s way a few weeks before the gig. Here’s our exchange:

Hiya, Debbie. Did you decide to come here simply because of routing, or were there other reasons why you’re choosing to grace this city for the first time?

Hey! This is our first time over to the States, so it’s also our first time playing Boise! We’re really pleased the routing allowed us to visit here.

Aside from integrating new material, is your set on this tour gonna be different in any other ways than in tours past?

For this tour, there is definitely an element of seriously having something to prove since we’re on tour with such a huge band! Not that we ever don’t play with the intention of delivering our best, but there is a lot of weight behind playing with a band like Trivium, who have such an important legacy in metal.

Clemy’s Crew Supporting Idaho Families of Pediatric Patients With Saturday Benefit Event

Posted in Concert Previews, Interviews, News with tags , , , on 11/26/2025 by Kurt Orzeck

As more than 8,000 families in Idaho have kids with special healthcare needs, the nonprofit organization Clemy’s Crew is rallying the citizens of the state to provide much-needed assistance by staging a benefit concert at Treefort Music Hall on Saturday.

Dubbed the “Concert for Compassion,” the inaugural event will support families of Idaho pediatric patients going through medical crises. It will run from 5 to 9 p.m. and feature performances by local bands, a silent auction, raffle prizes, pizza and a full bar.

Clemy’s Crew has helped more than 30 families of pediatric patients during medical crises in its first year. President and founder [editor’s note: and all-around great guy] Scott Thompson recently told us that Clemy’s Crew aims to help far more families next year – but will need substantial community support to accomplish that goal.
