Vocalist for Ohio Mainstream Rock Band ENMY Says ‘We Always Feel Like the Outsider’
Roughly one month ago, The Bad Penny caught up with mainstream-rock band ENMY, which consists of four guys who live in Cincinnati, Ohio. (ENMY isn’t to be confused with the now-shuttered British music publication NME, even though pronouncing their letters in succession leads to the same result.
“We’re kind of in the same vein as Linkin Park, Korn and Limp Bizkit, who all spell their band names wrong,” vocalist Brady Reis disclosed. “So, it’s like, the people who are into those bands will make the connection that we overlap with them a bit.”
When asked if the band has an obsession with their enemies that fuels their music and goal of scoring some type of victory over them, Reis claimed the inverse is true: “We’ve always considered ourselves the enemy,” he revealed. “That’s why we went with the name. In the initial stages of planning with the band, we were like, ‘All right, who do we even book with?” There weren’t any bands in our area doing a similar style of music [as ours] and putting in the same kind of effort and attention to detail.
“There aren’t any huge rock bands in Cincinnati,” Reis continued. “The last groups that came out [of our city] were Foxy Shazam and Walk the Moon, and they’re nothing like us. … We always felt like the outsider, or the enemy, in that scene. So that’s the band name we initially ran with and eventually embraced it. We’re like, ‘Yeah, we’re the enemy.”
ENMY are still supporting their self-titled album released in October 2024, although they’ve put out some singles (“Last One Standing,” “Incomplete” and “The Ledge”) since then. Watch the above video to learn much more about ENMY.
ENMY will embark on a three-day jaunt starting tomorrow at Preserving Underground concert hall in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. The following day, the band will perform at Photo City Music Hall in Rochester, New York; and the day after that, ENMY will grace the Rock on the Hill Music Festival in Hanover, Pennsylvania.
