10 Best Free Bandcamp Downloads #19: Coilguns, Candy 66, Dennis Tatú, La Seguridad Nacional, ostraca, Plasm, Throes

Welcome to the 19th installment of The Bad Penny‘s Bandcamp Freebie series, in which we handpick our favorite free songs on the platform and dish them up for your consumption. Are we gonna get out of this thing alive, dear readers? Let’s not think of that, shall we, even though I just asked you.

Ladies and gentlemen, we entreat you with our latest batch of free music of the highest quality. (And the lowest price.) Not as many full-lengths time around as in recent editions past. But we think you’ll survive. All 10 titles featured here are free. And yes, you ARE welcome.

1. Coilguns’ “Carbon Magic” and “Peace Trader“

Coilguns’ Lost Love EP (which I reviewed for Treble) served as the soundtrack to 2025: a hellishly bad acid trip. If love is the most precious thing life has to offer, what could be more terrifying than the prospect that we have abandoned it for good — or even worse, that it has abandoned us? The Swiss post-metal punks put that EP up for free, and now they’ve done the same with these two new songs, released in June and April, respectively.

2. La Seguridad Nacional’s “Danza de los demonios“

One of the bands included in our recent feature, “The 10 Best Venezuelan Heavy Bands, According to the Country’s Most Badass Garage-Rock Guitarist,” this is Caracas “dark punk” at its finest.

3. Dermis Tatú’s “Bazuco“

Here’s another cut from one of the bands listed in “The 10 Best Venezuelan Heavy Bands, According to the Country’s Most Badass Garage-Rock Guitarist.” Consider a sister song to the above, as this too is a “dark punk” tune from a band based in Caracas.

4. Plasm’s whole catalog

Experimental electronic musician Plasm from Durham, North Carolina, just cranked out what he titled Definitely The Last Plasm Album (we’re not sure if he’s kidding or not), and he generously put it up on Bandcamp at a pay-what-what-you price point. The seasoned pro has also made the rest of his catalog free of charge on Bandcamp, including Infinite Kittens, Molting, This Was Once Music, Plenum and Part 2. Those are all full-lengths, save Plenum, which contains two songs.

5. Candy 66’s “Bandera“

Another selection from our “The 10 Best Venezuelan Heavy Bands, According to the Country’s Most Badass Garage-Rock Guitarist feature, this one is more of the rock variety than the other two we offered above.

6. Caiatus’ Foregone Damnation

Been on the hunt for extreme metal from New Jersey? Look no further than Caiatus and this six-song platter of mind-blowing brutality. These guys were kind enough to share their sentiments on Metallica tied to their recent participation on a tribute record to that band for a wicked popular post we published last week. But we admire Caiatus even more for how they describe themselves on their Bandcamp page: “NJ extreme metal spreading a message against self-harm.” Model behavior from a model extreme-metal band.

7. ostraca’s Eventualities EP

Formed about a dozen years, it can’t be easy to be a Richmond, Virginia, band to establish itself in a city where Lamb of God holds court and won’t be dethroned for many years to come. That said, ostraca’s take on metal is totally different: It’s of the crust, emoviolence, post-metal, screamo variety. With that in mind, there’s plenty of room for ostraca to carve out their own space in not just Virginia but the metal scene at large.

8. Milked’s The Endless Party EP

What’s the haps in Eugene, Oregon, these days, you say – aside from the apocalyptic wildfires (2 million acres burned statewide)? Milked, that’s what. This indie synth-pop project, spawned from Geronimo!, is associated with Exploding in Sound, which is all the cred you need to know to check ’em out.

9. Black Marrow’s stills EP

We’ll let this project’s own description speak for itself: “Synthetic aural introspections channeled from the mind of Mike Berryman II.” This EP just came out in May, and Black Marrow hail from Toronto – where The Bad Penny would trade an arm to move to right now – and if that doesn’t sell you on ’em, hey, there are nine other options on this rundown of Bandcamp Freebies.

10. Throes’ To Dust

Boise post-hardcore band Throes have paid their dues in their home city, where breaking through as a band is more difficult than in most places, but they might finally be reaping some dividends after years of hard work. They’re one of the opening acts slated for an Armed for the Apocalypse gig happening in a little over a week and are now being repped by a PR firm. The Bad Penny wishes luck to our neighbors, and this humble inclusion of them on this Bandcamp roundup is the first tangible expression of that gesture of good will.
