Son Brave and Shango $upreme, one-half of Baltimore anti-violence collective POWAMOV, speak with The Bad Penny about how America will never be truly “great” until we face and eradicate social unrest, discrimination and easy access to guns — all of which are forms of violence — that corrode our country. We’ve dug one hell of a deep hole for ourselves, but Son Brave and Shango $upreme explain that, by acting as positive role models for kids and treating each other as neighbors worthy of respect and basic human freedoms, all is not lost.

The message isn’t just one that Son Brave and Shango $upreme elaborate on during this installment of On Tyranny; it’s the beating heart of their POWAMOV EP, due January 17. A precursor to their TBA full-length, the collective present a fresh take on Boom Bap/Phonk-influenced hip hop — proving POWAMOV want us to see and hear the world with fresh eyes and ears.

On Tyranny: ‘The American Experiment Is Over,’ Singer for LA Punks Jacob the Horse Declares

“Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight,” Aviv Rubinstien, singer for Los Angeles indie-punk band Jacob the Horse, tells The Bad Penny in a video conversation held earlier today.

“Show me your fangs or show me your teeth,” he continues. “People need to stop waiting around for others to do it for them and show the people that mean to step on you that you still have teeth and you won’t go down without a fight.”

The interview took place on December 14, 2025, less than two weeks before Jacob the Horse dropped their new single and video for “666 Chicks” – and ahead of the March 20 release of their new album, At Least It’s Almost Over.

If you know anything about the media, or anything about your grandparents, it’s that CBS’s weekend morning shows are their programming du jour. They feature soft, comfortable, feel-good segments that reassure septuagenarians that the United States isn’t really crumbling before our (lying!) eyes. After all, what a pain in the tookas it’d be for that sweet, nice and clearly incapable-of-contributing-to-the-mess-we’re-all-in-now cohort to be deprived of all the tranquility they’ve stashed away for the end of their lives.

With all that in mind (and yeah, admittedly, it’s a lot), it was tantalizingly, worlds-colliding-ly bizarre to see Mike Patton – yeah, the Faith No More frontman whose infamous video juxtaposed him contorting like MC Hammer while an asphyxiating fish flopped and failed to its death – perform on CBS Saturday Morning to promote his new AVVT/PTTN project. This is the same Mike Patton who, as legend has it, gave himself an enema onstage at a San Francisco gig in 1991 and “shared” it with the crowd.” The same Mike Patton who supposedly drank his own urine at a different show two years later.

Amorphis Bassist Says It’s Impossible for AI to Create ‘Real Metal Music’

“Amorphis is a really professional band, so we don’t actually [need to] rehearse that much,” he told The Bad Penny yesterday. “We only rehearse when we enter the studio, right before that, and before the shows, of course. But I’d say that we probably … rehearse … maybe one or two times a year, maximum.”
