Exclusive Video Premiere: Be Decent’s ‘Come Sweetly’
Last month, we had the distinct pleasure to exclusively premiere a new video by Be Decent, an instructively named neo-ska quartet from Brooklyn, in anticipation of the September 18 release date for their debut record, Now’s the Time. That video was for another instructively titled song, “You Better Work.”
Well, lightning does indeed strike twice, as we’re getting double the pleasure and double the fun with a second exclusive video premiere, this time for another prized selection from Now’s the Time: “Come Sweetly.”
Prior to “You Better Work,” the band slipped out “Human Nature,” featuring the lovable loquacious Ted Leo. Today, The Bad Penny exclusively brings you Be Decent’s second single, “You Better Work,” and accompanying video for it. Here ’tis:
Be Decent told The Bad Penny in an exclusive statement: “By law, they can’t all be ska songs. It’s good to mix things up — both on the album and on stage—and it’s nice to have a love song, if that’s what you want to call this. The first line is, ‘Now that I know I can’t trust you…’ So there’s obviously some pain and frustration here. And in a weird way, that fits with the other themes on the album. Politically, fiscally, romantically: Nothing is ever easy.”
“Maybe audiences love this one because they don’t have to skank, though I’ve seen people try. It’s just a good one to nod your head along with. And when Matt hits the sax solo, grab hold of something heavy, ’cause you’re liable to levitate.”
Now’s the Time will be released on September 18 through Two Slices Records, an indie label connected to Be Decent and artist Jimmy Doyle.
