Exclusive Video Premiere: Weather Happy’s ‘It Leaks Out’
Blondie (well, Debby Harry) famously sang: “One way or another, I’m gonna find ya/ I’m gonna get ya, get ya, get ya, get ya.”
U.K. noise-pop duo Weather Happy have their own, similar refrain – “It Leaks Out” – that they express in their new song of the same name.
“There’s certain things you just can’t hide,” vocalist/guitarist Holly Carter sings on the angular, off-beat and yet irresistibly catchy track. “Tiptoe around and you might.”
Debuting today on The Bad Penny, the tune is the first bite at the apple that we’re getting of Weather Happy’s new EP, Moth, due October 30 on Easy Does It Records. Produced by Idlewild guitarist Rod Jones, “It Leaks Out” was the natural first single, the band told The Bad Penny in an exclusive statement.
“This was one of the first songs we wrote for this project,” said the band, which also features drummer Harry Carter. “It’s a song about masking and bottling up negative thoughts and feelings until they inevitably find a way out. The enigmatic ‘corridors’ featured in the song represent the journey and impression those feelings make on and around our bodies with the constant need and pressure to reassure everyone that everything is fine.
“We loved writing this track,” the Carters continued. And despite as joyous and cathartic as “It Leaks Out” sounds at various intervals, “We were still working out which direction to take the band, but rather than just ease in, we kicked it off with this angry, angular, frustrated track that perfectly reflected where we both were at that very moment in our lives,” the band attested.
Weather Happy further elaborated on the song on the band’s Facebook page: ” ‘It Leaks Out’ is a song about masking and bottling up negative thoughts and feelings until they inevitably find a way out. We decided to have a day down by the thames to film the video – enjoy!”
Weather Happy are a new punk-rock duo that call to mind Sleater-Kinney and their math-rock brethren. The Carters are lifelong friends, with Holly having previously served in Xtra Mile Recordings band The Berries and Harry having logged many hours as a session drummer.
