Fucked Up’s ‘Chemistry of Common Life’: Two Cent Review


In the late aughts, when the majority of the most innovative and provocative punk bands had stepped out of the pool and toweled off, Toronto’s Fucked Up came running across the backyard out of nowhere and cannonballed into the water with such weight that even those standing at a safe distance got soaked.

With their second album, Damian “Pink Eyes” Abraham and his crew planted one of the pillars that propped up hardcore—an ambitious, more-than-hour-long epic of metaphysical narratives—after helping plumb it from the depths. To this day, the ramifications of Fucked Up’s The Chemistry of Common Life continue to ripple across the hardcore punk sphere.
