10 Best Free Bandcamp Downloads #11: Dave Grohl Side Project’s Full LP, low sunday, TINO, Post Pulse, Zabus
The 11th and latest installment of The Bad Penny‘s Bandcamp Freebie series features our strongest offering of free music to date. In addition to pay-what-you-want releases by a handful of artists that the site has featured (and thus recommended) in various posts, there’s only two singles among the bunch. The rest are full-lengths and short-players that the bands we’re featuring deserve hi-fives for posting for no cost on Bandcamp. So, without further ado, let’s dig in.
(Note: If you’re financially capable of supporting any of these artists and/or labels, please consider doing so.)
1. Probot – s/t
In the early ’00s, Dave Grohl started showing more affection toward heavy metal, even though his three most prominent projects – grunge gods Nirvana, hardcore heroes Scream and mainstream-rock darlings Foo Fighters – were never categorized at that sort. In particular, Grohl had developed a close friendship with Lemmy Kilmister, later appearing in a 2010 documentary paying tribute to the Motörhead majordomo.
Grohl confirmed his appreciation for metal with this one-off 2003 release by a project he called Probot. The songs featured Grohl playing along with some of metal’s greatest legends ever: Max Cavalera, Wino, Eric Wagner, King Diamond – and, of course, Lemmy. Our eyes grew wide when we noticed on Bandcamp that this special release is available for release.
2. Dreamweb – “Call of the Void“
On Saturday, we introduced you to Dreamweb, an experimental noise/drone project from Wellington, New Zealand. Ian Moir and his partner, Tyley Burkin, formed Dreamweb in 2025 – and this here song is the first one they’ve posted for free public consumption. Jump on these guys before the “band”wagon begins. And please compliment yours truly for that pun in the comments section of this post.
3. Tumbleweed Dealer – s/t
After writing a Treble review of Dark Green, the new album by Tumbleweed Dealer, this writer continues to be hooked on the heavy-psych band from Montreal, Québec. Listen to me discuss one of the band’s songs on the latest installment of WCRS LP-FM’s Ear Opener radio show and snag this free download of Tumbleweed Dealer’s first LP, issued in 2013.
4. low sunday – ghost machine white EP
Expand your horizons beyond the primarily rock releases featured in this installment of Bandcamp Freebies by checking out this EP by Portland, Oregon’s low sunday. The ambient project infuses post-punk, shoegaze and darkwave all into this nifty six-song package.
5. TINO – Sacred EP
Red-hot MC TINO – who hails from Dayton, Ohio – recently participated in The Bad Penny‘s On Tyranny series, and to make sure the artist isn’t overlooked, we’re including this February release of “Sacred” and two alternate versions of the song.
6. body shirt and life – split EP
This EP by two exciting punk/emo/hardcore bands isn’t just worth a listen – it’s worth picking up for free on the artists’ Bandcamp pages. Their split release came out in November, so it’s still very fresh.
7. Phobia – 22 Random Acts of Violence
Grindcore/anarcho-punk band Phobia released this full-length all the way back in 2008, at which point they had already established themselves by touring for 18 years. Prepare to be bludgeoned.
8. Mike June – Election Day EP
This roots-rock album from 2012 finds the storytelling troubadour from Hillsborough, North Carolina, finds the solo artist “master[ing] the precarious balance between despair and hope,” according to a statement on his Bandcamp page. Listen for yourself, and you’ll find truth in that assessment.
9. Post Pulse – “Not My War”
In anticipation of Post Pulse dropping a new album on May 29, here’s a preview of a song whose title pretty much says it all. This particular tune by the Helsinki-based melodic metal band came out in January, well before psychopathic fascist Donald Trump started various wars around the world.
10. Zabus – Shadow Genesis EP
The Bad Penny really likes Zabus, so much so that one of his albums was featured on my 13th Floor column about psychedelic music for Treble. Also, check out his installment in The Bad Penny‘s On Tyranny series.
