Memento: Winterlings’ Autumn Harvest

The Winterlings – a self-described “nocturnal alternative-folk band” – recently reached out to the Bad Penny with some thought-provoking pictures that warrant another installment in our ongoing “Memento” series. And with the fall having just arrived and Halloween around the corner, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

The timing is also apt because in less than two weeks, the Winterlings – Wolff Bowden and Amanda Birdsall – set forth their debut record, The Animal Groom (Redwood River). If you’re in Pennsylvania or New York, there’s even more reason to cheer: The October 12 release will be sandwiched by a smattering of shows taking place throughout the state (itinerary below). The fun starts Saturday with a performance at the thoroughly admirable Peace Fair and 5k Run/ Walk for Peace in Lahaska; the benefit event for the Buckingham Friends School will feature Cindy Sheehan as the keynote speaker.

But without further ado, here’s the second photographic Memento that Bowden sent along. “The pumpkin was a gift from some Florida folks who raise wolves in their backyard,” he said. “The mushroom [up top] is eerie. Who knows how they found out about us.”

For some of Bowden’s own creations, feast your eyes on the musician/ artist/ published poet’s dazzling paintings right here. You’ll quickly understand why ArtExpo Miami named him Artist of the Millennium in 2000.
