Boise’s Prize Fight Fest to Feature 14 Bands; Tix for All-Ages Show Cost Just 15 Bucks
In case you haven’t heard – and really, God bless you if you haven’t – the president of the United States of America and Dana White are planning to stage a UFC fight on the White House South Lawn on June 14 as part of a “celebration” of Trump‘s birthday. Well, Boise’s music scene is planning a vastly more enjoyable, safer and morally legit event of its own: an all-ages battle of the bands referred to “Prize Fight Fest,” happening Jan. 16 at the Shrine Social Club.
“The event commemorates the turning of a new leaf for Mount Orange Records to re-launch as a sister-label of Mishap,” the event organizers said in a statement, noting that it will also serve as a label showcase of sorts. “[We’ll] be ringing in the new year with several new artists and releases, many of which are performing on the following lineup.”
Participants will pummel the crowd with gnarly songs, and there will be a jovial spirit at the venue, as opposed to bloody fists and an aura of sadism. Presented by Boise-based record labels Mishap Records and Mount Orange, the event will feature performances by the city’s best and brightest indie bands:
• Trauma Kit (featuring Mishap Records owner Shadrach Tuck)
• Onsetter (which just dropped a killer split single, “Smother/Obituary”)
• Tony Horses
• Brand New Companion (who will participate as part of a larger tour and are the operators of Mount Orange Records)
• Frankie Tillo (whose new EP, our hopes sold as debt, drops Tuesday)
• Porcelain Tongue
• Chief Broom (also featuring Tuck)
• No Can Fly
• Proxi
• Spirit Hotel
• Jacob Wylder
• Desirable Trash
• Cul•de•Sac
• Ben Tjaden
If inflation, tariffs and economic malaise got you down, you’ll have even more incentive to go, as tickets for the event only cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door. (Tix are available here, with a mere 98-cent surcharge). That amounts to paying about a buck to see each band perform. Take that, Coachella!
The extravaganza will also feature a free Boise Punk Flea market to be held at the venue. The market will run from 3 to 5:30 p.m., with the music performances starting at 5 p.m.
Event organizers added: “Money raised at the fest will return to help support our community of artists and elsewhere, who have and will continue to collaborate with and support these grassroots, independent labels!”
