Exclusive Song Premiere: Blood of the Wolf’s ‘Oath of Supremacy’
Chicago blackened death-metal demons Blood of the Wolf tore metal fans to shreds just over three years ago with their album IV: The Declaration of War. Come Dec. 19, they’ll return to survey the wreckage and make sure there aren’t any remaining survivors with V: Indomitable, coming courtesy of the same label that issued its predecessor: Horror Pain Gore Death.
The Bad Penny is delighted to exclusively unveil “Oath of Supremacy,” one of the eight tracks on the torture rack of a record:
V: Indomitable will likely appeal to fans of Marduk, Belphegor, Vader and like-minded mutant metal monsters.
Mike Koniglio, vocalist and lead guitarist for Blood of the Wolf, told The Bad Penny in an exclusive statement that, “In recent years, I’ve been listening to bands like Cruciamentum, Dead Congregation, Wargrinder, Hate Manifesto, et. al. ‘Oath of Supremacy’ is the result of that brutal sonic regiment: heavy, blackened death metal with lots of tremolo picking and thick, murky chugs.
“The lyrics vaguely reference WWII era combat,” he continued. “When it comes to songs, I write lyrics, not history or stories. I try my best to put into words the visuals of warfare. The lyrics are a mixture of the literal and metaphorical landscape of the battlefield. What the song is about is not as important as what the song makes you feel, what mood the song evokes. I hope the ‘Oath of Supremacy’ evokes the conqueror in you.”
Koniglio added that “Working with HPGD has been fantastic! It’s been great to work with [Horror Pain Gore Death owner and operator] Mike [Juliano]. He does everything he says he’s going to do. He communicates clearly, follows through and stays on top of things. And I think he does it all by himself, which makes it even more impressive. We appreciate the support HPGD has given us over the years; they have helped the band grow. \m/”
Blood of the Wolf’s V: Indomitable is due Dec. 19. Pre-order the album here.
