Spooky Mansion Share ‘Love’ for Boise With Special Gig Tonight

It may only be Halloween eve, but Boise’s 9th St Parallel at Knitting Factory is getting the haunting festivities started early tonight with a performance by lively surf-rock/Americana troupe Spooky Mansion. The Treefort Music Fest vets had a blast playing here a few years ago and are psyched to be back, frontman/guitarist Grayson Converse recently told The Bad Penny.

“We loved it back then and actually stayed at the house of a professional hacky sack player. Didn’t even know you could be that!” he amusingly recalled. “The people were all super-friendly, great audiences, and generally a positive and fun group of people that seem to love music. Looking forward to hanging with everyone. I gotta find out where the best place to eat in Boise is, and then I’ll spend my leisure time eating there a few times.”

(Recommendations: Kibrom’s Ethiopian & Eritrean Restaurant, Bittercreek Alehouse and the new In-N-Out Burger location downtown.)

Tonight’s gig will be extra-special because it marks Spooky Mansion’s last gig before they release their new album, What About You?, tomorrow on Permanent Records. The record features two singles, the title track and “Saturdays,” both of which the Los Angeles band is expected to play tonight.

“We love our shows to be upbeat, full of dancing and smiling faces,” Converse said. “If we can get the audience to move to the music and have a great time, then I’m happy! We like to improvise and vibe off of each other, and it’s even better if the audience is rocking and we can go places together.”

Spooky Mansion are rounded out by Braden Lyle on lead guitar, Rob Mills on drums and Marty Reising on bass.

Time will tell whether the band’s Boise’s show proves as memorable as its recent one a bit farther East.

“In Wyoming, we found a small town that had a public hot spring in the center of town. It looked like a Roman bathhouse!” Converse reminisced. “There was a nice, Christian family we met that let the band stay at their house. They saw a Satan tattoo that I have – I got it as a young, dumb kid – and we jokingly told them we were Satanists. They were extremely friendly, interested in our ‘religion,’ and we had a great time together. Wyoming sure is friendly!”

Hopefully Spooky Mansion will once again find Boise to be just as much fun. Take part in the action by buying a ticket for their 9th St. Parallel show here; the show starts at 8 p.m., with Charleston, South Carolina rock/pop squad Stop Light Observations headlining.
