Kate Nash Touching Down in Boise on Saturday After ‘Breaking Into Theme Parks’
It’s time to roll out the red carpet, Boise: Special attraction Kate Nash, an English singer/songwriter who delivered her latest album over the summer on trailblazing indie record label Kill Rock Stars, makes her debut at Neurolux on Saturday night.
“I’m excited to be touring North America for the first time in six years,” Nash told The Bad Penny earlier this month. “I just signed with an American label and new agents here, so we wanted to try to cover some more ground and get to a new city that I haven’t toured in before!”
Those planning to catch Nash’s show, or thinking about going, should expect her to generously pick songs from her first studio album in six years, 9 Sad Symphonies. Beginning in May 2021, she released a half-dozen singles before the album’s release more than two years later, in June: “Misery,” “Horsie,” “Wasteman,” “Millions of Heartbeats,” “Space Odyssey 2001” and “My Bile.”
Nash gave us a glimpse behind the curtain during our exchange ahead of her show.
”When we feel collectively onstage and with my crew that we are in sync and we have good sound, that is so key to the experience,” she said. The artist is bound to enjoy the intimate club setting at Neurolux, which has a capacity of 300.
“I love meeting fans and seeing how different fans react to music and being at shows,” Nash shared. “It’s such an honor to hear fans’ stories and about their connection to my music. But yeah, if the tech of the show is good, we can really get into a flow state — and then it’s about channeling each other, and the atmosphere, and whatever’s going on in my world, and what I want the audience to take away.”
Hopefully Nash’s landing in Boise will be smoother than the rocky start that marked the beginning of her tour.
“The most recent wild story from tour has to be at Heathrow Airport on Day One, when our plane broke and we got removed from it after being stuck on it for three hours,” she recalled. “After checking in 19 pieces of gear, we had to get in trains, planes and automobiles to get to a hotel — and then lug it all again to the airport at 5 a.m. and take a long haul flight same day as the first show of the tour!”
Letting down her proverbial hair a bit further, the British artist also divulged — and making it more apparent why she’s signed to Kill Rock Stars: “Other wild moments on tour include clumps of other people’s pubes and hair falling on your body out of venue towels, having existential crises at the Mall of America and breaking into theme parks.”
We didn’t try to suss out more details on those escapades from the playful artist, who is often game for audience interaction — and special requests — during her performances.
Tickets for the show cost $35 at the door or $30 in advance here. New Hampshire singer/songwriter Revenge Wife and Kill Rock Stars indie artist Joh Chase will handle opening duties. Doors are at 7 p.m.
