Yes, Mary Timony Is Still On For Boise’s Treefort Music Fest
With Treefort Music Fest less than two months away, indie-rock fans flocking to Boise can breathe a collective sigh of relief: Legendary artist Mary Timony is, indeed, still on the bill.
Best known as the leader of Helium, the dreamy Boston trio that served as a staple of Matador Records’ roster in the ’90s, Timony is one of the main draws at this year’s edition of the five-day event. Treefort will take place from March 20 to 24 at various venues throughout the growing city.
Earlier this month, a press release indicated that Treefort had added Timony to this year’s bill. An updated version of her solo tour scheduled noted Thursday, March 21, as the day of her performance.
But as excitement about Idaho’s preeminent music festival grew, so did confusion as to whether Timony was still a planned participant. The festival’s lineup page and tour poster featured her name, and Timony’s personal website included Treefort as part of her itinerary. However, Merge Records’ dedicated page to the singer/songwriter still does not mention the festival. Timony’s Facebook profile similarly omits her planned set at Treefort.
On Saturday, Timony’s booking agent confirmed to The Bad Penny that she is, indeed, still slated to perform at the March extravaganza.
“She’s for sure playing,” Timmy Hefner of Ground Control Touring said in an email.
Still unknown, at least publicly, are the time and location of Timony’s set.
News of Timony’s return came in early November when Merge Records announced, to the surprise of even her most devoted fans, that she had a new album on the way. Due February 23, Untame the Tiger marks the first solo outing in 15 years by Timony, who also fronts Ex Hex and was part of the underground supergroup Wild Flag alongside members of Sleater-Kinney.
The eminently talented musician—adept at violin and keyboards, in addition to guitar—issued three coveted solo albums after the demise of Helium in 1998. Timony’s long list of music projects also includes Autoclave, Mind Science of the Mind, The Spells, Green 4, Garland of Hours, Hammered Hulls and Mary Timony Band.
